OUR MISSION STATEMENT
“We the members of the First Presbyterian Church of South Amboy,
are a congregation of the people who both trust and obey Jesus Christ. As such, we are the body that
carries on his mission today. ”
As a family of faith, our weekly gathering each Sunday remains central to all we do at First
Presbyterian. We seek to open ourselves up to the leading of the Holy Spirit, and to know God in a more personal
way through His son Jesus. Worship comes alive through our variety of music styles: traditonal hymns and contemporary
songs, choirs, soloists, and youth-led worship services. Pastor Dierdre Thomson presents a message that allows the
Bible to be more accessible and less intimidating.
OUR MINISTRIES
We believe that Christ calls us to serve people in need both here
and abroad. We incourage an active ministry of care, and our projects include:
DEACON'S MINISTRY:
Our deacon's ministry, through which our deacon's
provide food to the needy, visit those homebound, assist in communion, help with transportation and provide aide in many
ways.
OPERATION DIGNITY, INC.:
is a local partner with our congregation,
with whom we sponsor community services like parenting classes, family need intervention and various clearing house referrals.
MISSIONS:
Our missions committee meets at 12:00 noon on the second Wednesday
of every month in Fellowship Hall. We presently have 7 active members who serve and support missionaries both
locally and globally. Our mission is to be generous givers; to share our gifts and financial resources. Locally we
have fundraisers and from the proceeds have established a Youth Scholarship Fund which has helped our youth to
achieve their academic goals. In and out of our community we contribute to T.A.S.A (Teen Association of South Amboy)
Camp Johnsonburg, Restore Ministries and Operation Dignity. Outside our boundaries we support Campus Crusades and
European Christians Missions. God has called our church to be his tool to connect to His people both locally and
abroad. We will continue our mission. Please feel free to join us at our meetings.
Jesus said, "I am the vine, you are the branches."
